With only 200 miles remaining of our Uzbekistan adventure we arrive at Dekhkanabad, south of Qarshi. I’ll admit that before this challenge I couldn’t have placed Uzbekistan on a map and knew little about its people and culture. And that’s still the case. But what little I’ve see is intriguing, not least the sports stadia shown below. Let’s show some support for Nasaf Qarshi FC!

Week 29 was a great week for miles! We find ourselves in Gazli, Bukhara Region, Uzbekistan. Recently we passed our highest point in Phase 1, reaching a peak of 11,600 feet. We’re now back down to just-above sea level.

Gazli is a small town, only 8,000 inhabitants, but it has quite some architecture…

We lost just 20 miles last week and both Carlin and I were out of action. I’m feeling positive about the upcoming weeks (once the kids are back at school!)

This week we find ourselves south of Akkamysh, Uzbekistan, just on the border with Turkmenistan. Like Kazakhstan, this region is mostly empty, largely desert, and probably not much fun to pass through. We’re a long way from Charlbury and Morris dancing, that’s for sure.

There’s no street view in Uzbekistan, just the odd uploaded photo. It’s mostly small, empty villages.

There is one shot of a shop, which is stocking Colegate, Dove, and Pepsi. So western capitalism is thriving in even here.
