As we enter Russia, I remind myself that I have Russian in-laws who are fantastic people, and not to be prejudiced against the normal people who travel these roads we’re now on.

We leave Ukraine behind and find ourselves just north of Vinogradnyi, Russia. As we head to the deserts of Kazakhstan we see the last flat fields, green grass, and trees that we’ll see for a while…

In terms of raw numbers we only lost 10 miles last week. Good going people!

Barring a few large cities, the parts of Ukraine we’ve seen so far have been incredibly sparsely populated. This week is no different, as the landscape appears even more rural than ever as we enter Lesivka, in the Kharkiv Oblast. The village names on the map give the appearance of countless communities, but each name represents just a handful of houses. I suspect this will be common moving forward.

In raw numbers we remain over 200 miles behind our target, but Tom’s got his bike out, so I’m optimistic.
