One hundred and fifty-eight miles. The combined distance traveled by the Lyne Road Running Club this year. A glorious start to a cracking challenge.

Hardy continues to set the pace….

…stretching his legs over the beautiful Bodmin Moor.

Meanwhile the mere mortals continue from Cornish town to Cornish town up the A30.

Carlin is seeing Penzance and St. Micheal’s Mount‘s disappearing causeway for the first time.

While Johnny, Matt, and Dave have recently visited Camborne and the surrounding towns. By visited, I mean trek along the A30 and see mostly hedgerows.

The lack of footpath has me questioning Google’s algorithm for “walking” from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. Perhaps the coastal path eludes their database.

Tom, somewhat on his own, is in Three Burrows passing the local coffee shop, which may or may not be causing a traffic jam.

Keep up the good work, there’s a long way to go!

As the sunsets on the 1st week of our challenge it is obvious we have a problem, and that problem is Chris. Scampering into the distance with over 40 miles covered (including a half marathon), he will soon need his own map, doubling my efforts!

Day 3 concludes with everyone making consistent progress touring through our first county (Cornwall). Johnny, the last to leave Lands End, is now six miles up the A30, while Marathon Man Chris leads the way at 17 miles completed.

Let’s look at some of the sights we’ve seen so far…

Firsrtly we’ve all passed this lovely looking Fish & Chips shop, almost certainly full of fresh and locally caught cod.

Moving out of Sennan we enjoyed the views of the south coast.

Carlin is passing this quaint old cottage, probably featured on Escape to the Country.

Entering Lower Drift we see their “world famous” standing stones. All two of them. You’ll need to look closely. Surely a candidate for UNESCO world heritage status.

Matt is passing through the north shore town of Hayle…

while Chris is pressing on along the A30 to Connor Downs.

A long way to go and lots more to see.

Day 1 of the Virtual Challenge. Five of the six participants have left Land’s End car park and famous signpost behind, beginning the 861 mile journey to the tip of Great Britain. Matt and Chris have nearly reached the first major town on route (Penzance), with seven and six miles covered respectively.
