Week 29 was a great week for miles! We find ourselves in Gazli, Bukhara Region, Uzbekistan. Recently we passed our highest point in Phase 1, reaching a peak of 11,600 feet. We’re now back down to just-above sea level.

Gazli is a small town, only 8,000 inhabitants, but it has quite some architecture…

We lost just 20 miles last week and both Carlin and I were out of action. I’m feeling positive about the upcoming weeks (once the kids are back at school!)

This week we find ourselves south of Akkamysh, Uzbekistan, just on the border with Turkmenistan. Like Kazakhstan, this region is mostly empty, largely desert, and probably not much fun to pass through. We’re a long way from Charlbury and Morris dancing, that’s for sure.

There’s no street view in Uzbekistan, just the odd uploaded photo. It’s mostly small, empty villages.

There is one shot of a shop, which is stocking Colegate, Dove, and Pepsi. So western capitalism is thriving in even here.

Next up on places we’ll never visit – Akzhigit, Kazakhstan. A small desert town on the border of Uzbekistan. No idea why anyone would live here, but I guess you could say the same for Thrupp.

We are approaching 4000 miles. This week looks positive with Matty on holiday (ice cream walks incoming), any my knee improving. Not to forget the new running socks I received for father’s day.

Where do we find ourselves today? In the town of Opornyy, deep in the Kazak deserts. In case you missed the flyover last week, you should check it out and compare the number of place names appearing to those in our first week. There’s not much to look at.
